The Northeast Kingdom Collaborative Forum for Telecommunications revealed just a few major providers of true high speed Internet available to the businesses and residents of the region. By far the largest is Fairpoint Communications through their dial up, DSL and fiber optic lines. However, Fairpoint is unable to deliver to the last road mile in each of our towns leaving many unconnected to the 21st Century.Comcast Cable now delivers television and high speed Internet via their network bringing competition to Fairpoint within cities, towns and villages. Connectivity does not reach the last mile in all towns. Regional Wireless provider, Great Auk Wireless, provides wireless high speed to the more rural areas of the region through a series of wireless mountaintop towers broadcasting into the towns and villages below. Kingdom Connection is another regional provider of wireless and dialup access. AT&T and Verizon Wireless offers wireless telephone and Internet service in the larger towns and along the I-91 interstate corridor. Vast areas of the forested portions of the region are still not served yet exciting new projects are under construction by Northern Community Investment Corporation and Terestar.
